Debris is a science-fiction television series that follows two agents, Bryan Beneventi and Finola Jones, who work for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) respectively. Set in contemporary times, the show explores the aftermath of an alien spacecraft which disintegrated into thousands of fragments across Earth, known as "debris." Each piece of debris has unique properties and capabilities that can have devastating consequences on humanity if not contained.
In the first episode, "Pilot," we are introduced to Bryan and Finola, who are brought together to investigate the effects of the debris on Earth. The episode begins with a spacecraft crash in South Dakota, where the debris is spread across a wide range. The series of events trigger the CIA and the FBI to collaborate on the investigation and find the cause of the crash. With the increasing number of incidents caused by the debris around the world, the agents turn their focus on protecting the public while obtaining the debris.
Bryan and Finola, from different intelligence agencies, have contrasting working methods. Bryan comes from a space background and takes an empirical approach to file retention obsessively, while Finola comes from an intelligence background and is more people-oriented. Initially, the alliance between the two proves to be challenging because of their differing personalities and the trust factor. Bryan is unsure of how to read and intercept debris, while Finola is doubtful about Bryan's credibility in the field. However, as the story progresses, they both start learning each other’s respective techniques.
The first case that Bryan and Finola work on is a mysterious incident in Nebraska. The debris has somehow gained the power to absorb water; birthing a virus that causes an uncontrollable urge to drink water. In the meantime, Bryan's former partner, Craig Maddox, shows up and shows an interest in obtaining the debris. Maddox's interest in the debris makes Bryan suspicious, but he is nonetheless willing to work with him.
With the help of their technical staff, Bryan and Finola, find an unusual pattern to the incident. They come to the conclusion that the debris is acting as an amplifier of pre-existing elements inside the human body. Finally, they uncover that Craig's sister was affected by water scarcity in the past, and he is willing to do anything to make sure she does not experience it again.
In the meantime, Maddox has his agenda. He attempts to obtain a fragment of debris, but, Bryan and Finola catch him in the act and take him in for questioning. Bryan’s working relationship with Maddox becomes increasingly strained due to his lack of trust in him.
Throughout the episode, Bryan and Finola attempt to solve the mystery of the debris and its unique properties while facing challenges from both external forces and internal conflicts. Despite initial hesitations, the two agents form a cohesive working relationship towards the end, with the potential to make a significant impact on the strange debris that is facing the Earth.
Overall, the pilot episode of Debris offers a promising start to what seems like an intriguing and unique science fiction series. With mysterious debris causing destruction and chaos worldwide, the plot is sure to provide twists and turns and keep the audience on the edge of their seats throughout. The lead actors, Jonathan Tucker, and Riann Steele, have promising chemistry, and the supporting cast presents a strong backdrop for the story's development. It will be exciting to see how the narrative unfolds, the alliances and betrayals that arise, and the long-lasting impact of the debris on Earth in the following episodes.
