Ep 6. Fair Exchange

Death Valley Days was a popular American Western TV series that ran from 1952 to 1970. Each episode told a different story, based on actual events from the history of the American West. Season 8 episode 6 was titled "Fair Exchange".

The episode begins with a group of settlers, led by a man named Jim, traveling across the plains in a covered wagon. They stop for the night and make camp, but they are visited by a band of Indians who demand that they leave the area. Jim tries to negotiate with the Indians, but they are not interested in talking.

The next day, the settlers continue on their journey and eventually come across a trading post run by a man named Lije. Lije agrees to sell them supplies and trade with them, but he warns them of the dangers of the area and tells them to be careful.

As the settlers are leaving the trading post, they are ambushed by the same group of Indians from the night before. Several members of the group are killed, and Jim is taken prisoner. The rest of the settlers manage to escape and make their way back to the trading post.

Lije agrees to help them rescue Jim, but he tells them that he needs their help in return. Lije explains that he has been trying to establish a trade route with a nearby Indian tribe, but they have been resistant to his offers. He believes that if the settlers can convince the Indians to trade with him, he will be able to use the profits to hire men to rescue Jim.

The settlers agree to the plan, and they set out to meet with the Indians. At first, the Indians are hostile and refuse to listen to them. However, one of the settlers, a young woman named Sarah, manages to win the trust of the Indian chief by speaking to him in his own language. She explains that they only want to trade with the Indians and do not mean them any harm.

The chief agrees to the trade, and the settlers return to the trading post with the goods. Lije is pleased with the outcome and hires a group of men to rescue Jim. They succeed in rescuing him and bring him back to the trading post.

As Jim recovers from his ordeal, the settlers and Lije celebrate their successful trade with the Indians. Lije tells them that he plans to use the profits to build a larger trading post and continue his work in the area.

In the end, the settlers say goodbye to Lije and continue on their journey to their new home in the West. The episode ends with a voiceover by the show's host, telling the audience that this was another true story from the history of the American West.
