In Death Note season 1 episode 20, titled "Makeshift," the story continues to follow Light Yagami, a high school student who gains a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes inside it. Light has a god complex and wants to use the notebook to cleanse the world of criminals and create a better world.
The episode opens with Light and his father, Soichiro Yagami, discussing a plan to catch Kira, the name given to the unknown person using the Death Note to kill people. Soichiro is the head of the special task force trying to catch Kira, and he reveals that they have a suspect - Raye Penber's fiancée, who was with him on the train when he was killed by Kira.
Meanwhile, Light's girlfriend Misa Amane, a famous model and the owner of a second Death Note, is approached by another Kira follower named Kyosuke Higuchi. He works for a corporation that helps Kira gather information and believes that Misa is the real Kira. Misa denies it, but Kyosuke begins to suspect her when she seems to know too much about a recent Kira killing.
Later on, Light's plan to eliminate all obstacles in his path to creating a perfect world is revealed. He plans to kill L, the mysterious and highly intelligent detective who is trying to catch Kira. Light also intends to kill his father, who is a member of the task force and would never allow Kira to continue his killing spree.
In this episode, Light also comes up with a new plan to kill L using the Death Note. He decides that by tricking Raye Penber's fiancée into revealing herself as Kira, he can write her name in the notebook, thereby killing both Kira and the person helping her. This will clear the way for Light to continue his plans without the threat of L.
Overall, Death Note season 1 episode 20, "Makeshift," is a suspenseful episode that sets the stage for the final showdown between Light and L. As the plot thickens and Light's plan becomes increasingly complex, viewers are left wondering how it will all end. The episode also explores the dynamic between Light and his father, as it becomes more and more clear that Soichiro will never accept Kira's actions even if they align with Light's own goals.
