A bizarre and intricate murder case is brought to Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman and his team in the fourth episode of Death in Paradise season 4. The episode opens with the body of an elderly billionaire - Philip Marston, discovered on his private yacht, seemingly alone. But, as the investigation unfolds, it becomes apparent that nothing is quite as it seems.
The yacht is covered in blood, but it quickly becomes clear that the billionaire died from poisoning, not physical harm. After searching the yacht, the team discovers a hidden compartment which was obviously used to smuggle drugs. Suddenly, the simple case of a wealthy man's death turned into a tangled web of illegal activity.
Humphrey and his team are soon introduced to a host of new characters - all of whom were present on the boat at the time of the murder. The first suspect is Louisa, Philip's assistant, who appears to have a lot to hide. Then, there’s the beautiful and mysterious Sandrine, the French girlfriend of the dead man. She is soon revealed to have her own secrets, as well as a murky past.
Meanwhile, the deceased's family members are all in shock - especially his son, played by Adam Deacon, who is desperate to get to the bottom of his father's mysterious death. Deacon has to deal with his own troubled past, has a difficult relationship with his father and is initially one of the main suspects in the case.
As the case progresses, Humphrey and his team uncover more secrets and lies, each more shocking than the last. They discover that Philip had many enemies and motives for someone to kill him, from a conflict over money with an old friend and drug dealers to scandalous lawsuits involving his company.
The investigation takes them from the yacht to a nearby island - a place where multi-millionaires go to escape from the rest of the world and where appearances can be deceptive. The detectives take the opportunity to interrogate the potential suspects and gather evidence. There's a thrilling atmosphere throughout the episode, as each character seems to have their own hidden agenda. The detectives find themselves following leads that take them down unexpected paths.
Furthermore, the episode introduces two new characters to the show - Harry the dog and his elegantly-dressed owner - the formidable Lady Leonora. She plays an important role in uncovering the truth of the mystery, providing Humphrey with a critical piece of information that leads to the solving of the case.
As the episode draws to a close, all the clues start to fall into place, and the pieces of the puzzle start to come together. The detectives are quick to apprehend the killer, and the episode ends with the satisfyingly detailed explanation of how and why the murder was carried out.
Throughout the episode, there are plenty of twists and turns, red herrings, and plenty of surprises that keep the viewers guessing until the very end. Overall, episode four of Death in Paradise season 4 is an exciting and complex mystery that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.
