Deadly Women is back with its thirteenth season, and episode four is titled “Vow to Kill”. Unlike the previous episodes, this episode explores the cases of women who killed their future partners before walking down the aisle.
The episode opens with the story of Julie Harper, a Californian mother who had it all but had become increasingly unhappy with her husband, Paul. Their relationship was tumultuous, and they were undergoing a divorce. However, before the proceedings were finalized, Paul came to visit his wife and children for an overnight visit. The next morning, Paul was found dead by Julie's daughter. Julie denied killing Paul, claiming that she had shot him in self-defense after he assaulted her. The police, however, could not find any signs of a struggle, and Julie was arrested for her husband's murder.
The next case is about a Brazilian woman named Suzane von Richthofen. Suzane had grown up in a wealthy family but fell in love with Daniel Cravinhos, a man from a lower socio-economic background. Despite her parents' opposition, Suzane was determined to be with Daniel and plotted to kill her parents with the help of him and his brother. The trio entered the family home and bludgeoned Suzane's parents to death while they were sleeping. Suzane and the Cravinhos brothers were arrested, tried, and found guilty of murder. Suzane's defense argued that she was an innocent pawn in a plot orchestrated by the Cravinhos brothers, but the judge was unconvinced. Suzane remains in jail to this day.
The third case is about Stacy Castor, a woman who had been married twice and had a daughter. She lived in New York and met David Castor on a dating site. After a few months of dating, they got engaged, but things started to go wrong. David died unexpectedly, and it was initially believed to be the result of a suicide. But Stacy's daughter became suspicious and pointed out that her mother had supplied David with a lethal dose of antifreeze. The police exhumed the body of Stacy's first husband, and it was discovered that he, too, had been poisoned. Stacy was arrested for the murders of both her husbands.
The fourth case is about a woman named Sarah Dazley. She was engaged to a man named Paul Hopkinson and had arranged for him to stay at her house one night. The next morning, Paul's body was found in Sarah's living room, and she claimed that he had committed suicide. The police were suspicious, however, and found several inconsistencies in her story. Sarah was eventually found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
In the final case, we learn about Mary Beth Tinning, a New York woman who had lost several of her children to sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS. However, Mary Beth's story began to unravel when her ninth child, a daughter named Tami Lynne, died under suspicious circumstances. An autopsy revealed that Tami Lynn had died from smothering, and the police began to investigate Mary Beth. Over time, they found evidence that suggested Mary Beth had suffocated all nine of her children. She was tried and convicted of second-degree murder and is still serving her sentence.
Overall, “Vow to Kill” explores the dark side of relationships and the lengths that some people will go to ensure that they get what they want. Deadly Women, as usual, presents these stories in a compelling and thought-provoking manner that will leave viewers wondering about the motives behind these deadly acts.
