In the eighth episode of the seventh season of Deadliest Catch titled "Graduation Day", the captains and crew members of the Northwestern, Time Bandit, Wizard, and Cornelia Marie gear up for the end of the King Crab season. The episode opens with the Northwestern and its crew, who are finally at the end of their grueling 10-day trip. While the Northwestern started with a lot of promise, things got grimmer as the season progressed. The crew is tired, hungry, and ready to head back to shore, but they still have one more pot to pull. Throughout the episode, we see the crew members push themselves to their limits as they work hard to ensure that they get everything they can out of the season.
The Time Bandit, on the other hand, is at the tail end of their season and the crew is in high spirits since they have had a successful season. We see the crew members joking around and celebrating as they pull up their last pots. However, as they begin the journey back to town, they are faced with a problem that threatens to ruin their celebration. The Wizard, too, is nearing the end of their season and the crew is wary as they hunt for a particular spot to fish.
Meanwhile, Keith Colburn of the Wizard is dealing with his own set of problems, as he tries to groom his greenhorn, Chris, for the job. However, Chris’s ineptitude is getting on Keith’s nerves, and in a misguided attempt to teach him, he puts him in a dangerous situation on the deck of the ship. Despite the rough waters, Chris works hard to prove himself, but it remains to be seen if he is up to the task.
Finally, we have the Cornelia Marie, which is in a dire situation. The vessel has gone through a lot of changes since last season, including the passing of its captain, Phil Harris. Phil’s son, Josh, is now the captain, but he is still learning the ropes and trying to figure out how to balance being a captain and taking care of his crew. Meanwhile, the Cornelia’s engine is acting up, which leads to a series of setbacks and delays that could potentially ruin the season for the boat and its crew.
Throughout the episode, we get a glimpse into the lives of these crab fishermen as they navigate the dangerous waters of the Bering Sea. We see them deal with tough weather conditions, mechanical failures, and the strain that comes with being away from their families and homes for months at a time. But we also see the camaraderie and teamwork that develops among crew members who put their lives on the line every day to bring home a good catch.
In the end, the episode serves as a reminder that crab fishing is an incredibly difficult and dangerous profession, but for those who are willing to put in the work, the rewards are worth it. As the season comes to a close and the boats make their way back to shore, we are left with a sense of anticipation for what the next season of Deadliest Catch will bring.
