The show Deadliest Catch season 16 episode 18, named Like Father Like Daughter, follows the dangerous and demanding lives of the crab fishermen on board the fishing vessels as they try to catch the highly profitable King crab. The episode centers around a father-daughter duo on board the Wizard, Captain Keith Colburn and his daughter Monty.
The episode starts with the father-daughter duo discussing their respective roles on the boat. Monty is a greenhorn and this is her first season, so she has a lot to learn from her father. Captain Keith assigns her to work on the deck, with the experienced crew members, to learn the ropes. He trusts his crew and knows they will take care of her. However, Monty quickly realizes that crab fishing is not for the faint-hearted. The deckhand job is physically demanding, and she struggles to keep up with the fast-paced environment.
Meanwhile, on the Time Bandit, Captain Andy Hillstrand and his crew are having a rough day. The crab pots they dropped the night before have come up light, meaning there are only a few crabs in the pots. The crew is disappointed as they were expecting a good catch. They try to strategize and decide whether to pull the pots and try a new spot or move on to a new area altogether.
On the Northwestern, Captain Sig Hansen is struggling to find crab. He has been using the same spots for years, but this year the crab are not where they usually are, and Sig is worried about the size of the catch. His crew is feeling the pressure, as they have families to feed back home, and the tight-knit group is eager for a successful catch.
Back on the Wizard, Monty is finally getting into the swing of things. She is making progress with the deckhand work, and her dad is proud of her. However, things take a turn when a rogue wave rocks the boat, and Monty falls on the deck, injuring her ankle. Captain Keith is worried about her safety and decides to take her off deck duty for the time being.
As the episode progresses, each boat faces different challenges on board. The Time Bandit crew manages to switch to a new spot and comes up with a successful catch, while the Northwestern crew finally finds a batch of King crab and has a good day's work.
But for the Wizard, things take a turn for the worse. While pulling in a pot, the line snaps, and the pot falls into the water, taking with it around 200 King crab. The crew is disappointed, but Captain Keith is particularly upset since he considers this a rookie mistake. To make matters worse, Monty's ankle is not healing as quickly as they hoped, and her safety on board is a concern.
The episode ends with each boat continuing to push through the dangerous and unpredictable waters, with the hope of a successful catch and a safe return home. The father-daughter duo on the Wizard faces particular challenges, but they push through and continue to learn from their experiences on board. The episode leaves viewers on the edge of their seats and eager to see how the rest of the season plays out.
