DCI Banks season 3 episode 5, titled "Innocent Graves (1)," follows Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks as he investigates a series of brutal murders that have taken place in and around the town of Eastvale. The first victim is a young boy whose body is found buried in a remote field, and Banks quickly realizes that the killer is someone who is well-known and trusted by the local community.
As Banks and his team delve deeper into the case, they discover that the murders may be linked to a string of burglaries that have occurred in the same area. It soon becomes clear that the killer is targeting families who have suffered financial hardships, and who have been forced to sell their homes at a discount.
Banks and his team interview a number of suspects, including a former colleague of Banks' who has fallen on hard times, a local builder who may have been involved in the burglaries, and a mysterious woman who has been spotted in the area.
As the investigation progresses, Banks becomes increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress and the mounting pressure from his superiors to solve the case quickly. Meanwhile, his personal life becomes increasingly complicated as he is forced to deal with his ex-wife's new boyfriend.
As the episode comes to a close, Banks and his team are left with more questions than answers, and the killer continues to elude them. However, Banks remains determined to bring the perpetrator to justice, no matter what it takes.
