David Strathairn plays Royce, a scientist who is more reserved and cautious than Dan. Royce is analytical and detail-oriented, and he is always looking for evidence to back up his theories. Strathairn delivers an excellent performance as Royce, and he brings a lot of depth to the character.

Michael Tucker plays Dr. Segal, the head of the laboratory where the scientists work. He is a brilliant and respected doctor who is both a mentor and a friend to the team. Tucker is charming and affable in the role, and he adds a lot of humor to the show.

Martin Landau plays Dr. Arnold Mayer, a scientist who is brought in to help decode the signal. He is a brilliant researcher with a lot of expertise in linguistics and communication. Landau is intense and engaging in the role, and he brings a lot of energy to the show.

Overall, Day One is an excellent series that should have lasted longer than six episodes. The show features a talented cast, a gripping story, and some excellent production values. It is a shame that the show was cancelled so quickly because it had the potential to be a classic in the science fiction genre.
