The fifth season of Dawson's Creek picks up where the last one left off, with the characters dealing with the aftermath of the previous year's events. In episode 2, titled "Lost Weekend," Dawson invites his friends to a film festival in Boston, hoping to mend his fractured relationship with Joey. However, things quickly go awry when Jen and Jack spend the night together and Pacey's weekend plans with Joey fall through.

With tensions already running high, Dawson's filmmaking idol, Oliver, makes an appearance at the festival and begins to stir up trouble. Despite his initial excitement at meeting Oliver and potentially collaborating on a film, Dawson quickly realizes that his hero has a dark side. Oliver is reckless and unpredictable, and he seems to enjoy toying with Dawson's emotions.

Meanwhile, Pacey is struggling with his feelings for Joey. Though he wants nothing more than to tell her how he feels, he's afraid that doing so would jeopardize their friendship. To make matters worse, he runs into an old flame named Karen and spends the night with her, only to discover that she's engaged.

Jen, too, is dealing with her own issues. After her night with Jack, she begins to realize that she might be attracted to women as well as men. Though she's hesitant to explore these feelings, she's unable to deny them. Her confusion and insecurity are palpable as she tries to come to terms with her sexuality.

As the weekend wears on, tensions continue to mount between all of the characters. Pacey and Joey have a blowout fight, with Joey accusing Pacey of only wanting her when he can't have her. Dawson and Oliver's relationship takes a turn for the worse when Oliver reveals that he's stolen one of Dawson's films and passed it off as his own.

Despite all of this drama, the group manages to come together for one final night of revelry. They attend a party hosted by Oliver, where they drink and dance and let loose. However, as the night wears on, things start to spiral out of control. Dawson becomes increasingly disgusted with Oliver's behavior, Jen has a tense conversation with a woman she's attracted to, and Pacey and Karen's fling is exposed.

By the time the group returns home, they're all exhausted and emotionally drained. Dawson realizes that he needs to cut ties with Oliver and focus on his own work, while Pacey decides to tell Joey how he really feels about her. Jen, too, is making strides toward self-acceptance, as she starts to explore her attraction to women.

Overall, "Lost Weekend" is a tense and emotional episode that pushes the characters to their limits. The themes of love, friendship, and self-discovery are all explored in depth, as the characters grapple with their own desires and fears. As always, the writing and acting are top-notch, making this episode a must-see for fans of the show.
