This show follows the lives of four high school friends - Dawson, Joey, Pacey, and Jen - as they navigate through the ups and downs of adolescence in the small town of Capeside, Massachusetts. In season 5, the characters are now in college and facing new challenges and experiences.
In episode 1, titled "The Bostonians," Joey is preparing to leave for her sophomore year at Worthington University in Boston. However, she is feeling conflicted about leaving her hometown and the people she loves behind. Her best friend, Dawson, suggests that they take a road trip to Boston together to help ease her anxiety.
Meanwhile, Pacey is still working at the restaurant and struggling to keep things running smoothly. He has a new boss, Rob, who he clashes with frequently. Rob is a no-nonsense guy who is more interested in profit than customer service, and Pacey is finding it difficult to adapt to his new management style.
Jen, on the other hand, is feeling the pressure of living up to the expectations set forth by her grandmother. She is enrolled in a challenging course load at Worthington University and is trying to balance her academic obligations with her social life.
As Joey and Dawson make their way to Boston, they encounter a series of obstacles, including a flat tire and an unexpected detour. However, they manage to arrive in one piece and are greeted by Joey's roommate, Audrey. Audrey is a new character this season, and she is immediately established as a fun-loving and carefree spirit who is determined to show Joey a good time.
Later that evening, Joey and Dawson attend a party hosted by Audrey's friend, AJ. AJ is a handsome and charming guy who takes a liking to Joey right away. Dawson, who still harbors feelings for Joey, is jealous of the attention she is receiving.
Back in Capeside, Pacey's troubles at the restaurant continue. On top of dealing with Rob's management style, Pacey is also beginning to feel that his job is no longer fulfilling. He confides in Jen, who encourages him to think about what he really wants to do with his life.
"The Bostonians" sets the stage for the rest of season 5 by introducing new characters and establishing the ongoing storylines for the existing ones. It highlights the challenges of growing up and moving on, while also emphasizing the importance of the friendships that shaped the lives of these characters in their younger years.
