Tom Wlaschiha, who plays captain Hoffmann, delivers a nuanced performance that helps to demonstrate the character's complexity. Rainer Bock, who portrays Johann's father, conveys the pain and heartbreak of a parent watching his child struggle with addiction.

Overall, "Shoot to Kill" is a riveting episode that further cements Das Boot's place as one of the best historical dramas on television. It delivers action, drama, and suspense in equal measure, holding viewers' attention until the very end.
