- September 26, 1991
Darkwing Duck season 1 episode 14 "Can't Bayou Love" follows Drake Mallard, a.k.a Darkwing Duck, and his sidekick Launchpad McQuack as they investigate a series of thefts in the swampy Bayou community. The episode starts with a robbery taking place at the Bayou museum where an artifact by the name of the Bayou Tapestry was stolen. The Bayou Tapestry was a legendary artifact that was believed to have magical powers that could bring good fortune to the Bayou community. The theft is a huge blow to the community as they believe that the Bayou Tapestry is their only hope of prosperity.
Darkwing Duck is approached by a mysterious woman named Gumbo, who claims to have information on the thief's identity. Gumbo explains to Darkwing that she believes that the thief is the notorious thief Quackerjack and that he has been hiding out in the Bayou community. Quackerjack, a villain known for his brilliant and diabolical schemes, is known to Darkwing, and he knows that he is not to be taken lightly.
Darkwing and Launchpad set out to investigate the Bayou Community to try and find any leads and clues that may assist them in their pursuit of the Bayou Tapestry thief. Along the way, they meet a number of new characters, like the crocodile punsters Jambalaya Jake and Gumbo, who run a restaurant in the Bayou community. Jambalaya Jake is also fond of telling stories of the Bayou Tapestry and its magical powers. Darkwing and Launchpad also meet the lovely Morgana Macawber, who is visiting the Bayou community for a business deal. Morgana is a sorceress with a close connection to Darkwing.
As Darkwing and Launchpad continue their investigation, they learn that Quackerjack is not the only candidate for the theft. They are also introduced to Moliarty, a rogue French street performer with a shady past. Moliarty is known for his pickpocketing skills and is also rumored to have many secrets. Darkwing comes up with a plan to draw both Moliarty and Quackerjack out of hiding by creating a fake Bayou Tapestry to showcase to them.
The plan works, and Moliarty and Quackerjack both appear on the scene for the fake Bayou Tapestry. In a twist of fate, Darkwing learns that the real thief is not one of the two, but actually Morgana Macawber. He is shocked and heartbroken to learn this about the woman he has been drawn to on their journey.
The episode ends with Darkwing and Launchpad celebrating with the Bayou community, who are grateful for the return of the Bayou Tapestry. Darkwing, however, is left with a feeling of sadness and confusion as he tries to understand why Morgana would steal the Bayou Tapestry. The plot twist at the end of the episode sets up for future episodes of deceit, mystery, and drama.
