Daria season 2 episode 9 is titled "Ill." The episode centers around Daria's bout with a case of the flu. Illness strikes hard at the Morgendorffer family, with Jake, Quinn, and Daria all suffering from the plague. Despite being sick, Daria is worried about schoolwork and missing classes. She spends her time trying to catch up on her schoolwork while simultaneously trying to take care of herself.
Meanwhile, Jane wants to use Daria's illness as an opportunity to get closer to Trent. She suggests dropping by Daria's house with soup and other remedies for the sick family, but Daria is skeptical. She knows that Jane only wants to see Trent, and she thinks it would be weird for him to show up unannounced.
While Daria tries her best to keep up with homework, she struggles to do so. She often finds herself falling asleep or feeling too weak to concentrate. On the bright side, she discovers that she can be just as productive while lying down. She manages to finish some of her work while lying on the couch.
As her condition worsens, Daria begins to have fever dreams. In one dream, she is stuck in a video game called Sick Quest, where she must collect tissues and cough drops to advance to the next level. In a later dream, she imagines herself as a famous detective, trying to find out who gave her the flu.
Eventually, Daria starts to feel better. Despite feeling drained, she manages to make it to school. She discovers that her absence has caused Mr. DeMartino to assign extra work to catch up on, much to her chagrin. However, Daria manages to keep up with the extra work, thanks to the productivity skills she learned while sick.
Overall, "Ill" is a quirky yet relatable episode about the struggles of being sick and how it affects one's productivity and ability to complete schoolwork. It also touches on the themes of friendship and trust, as Daria and Jane have a discussion about the latter's motivations for visiting the Morgendorffers.
