In Danger Mouse season 2 episode 2, entitled "Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind," our hero Danger Mouse and his trusty sidekick Penfold face off against an otherworldly invader who's arrived on earth to steal the planet's supply of "Dumbonium," an element that's essential to the survival of their own planet.
The episode opens with Danger Mouse and Penfold enjoying a game of golf, but their leisurely day is interrupted when they're suddenly whisked away to a top-secret government facility, where they learn about the impending alien threat. The alien is a "Zoltar," a race of beings who are known for their supreme intelligence, but also for their tendency to underestimate their opponents. Danger Mouse and Penfold are tasked with stopping the aliens from stealing the Dumbonium and destroying earth in the process.
The duo quickly sets off to track down the alien, but they're thrown off track when they're ambushed by a group of flying, tennis ball-shaped creatures called "Z-Ballers." After a brief pursuit, they're able to capture one of the Z-Ballers and interrogate it, learning that they're being controlled by the Zoltar alien with a "Z-Device," a kind of remote control that allows them to control their minions with ease.
Danger Mouse and Penfold hatch a plan to infiltrate the alien's ship and destroy the Z-Device, but things quickly go awry when they're captured and brought before the Zoltar. The Zoltar, initially underestimating the duo, reveals his entire plan to them, giving Danger Mouse the information he needs to defeat him. Danger Mouse is able to outsmart the Zoltar and destroy the Z-Device, thwarting the alien's plans and saving the earth from destruction.
The episode ends with Danger Mouse and Penfold retreating back to their golf game, where they attempt to explain the wild adventure they just had to a skeptical Colonel K.
Overall, "Close Encounters of the Absurd Kind" is a fun, action-packed adventure that successfully blends sci-fi thrills with Danger Mouse's signature humor and wit. Fans of the show will no doubt enjoy seeing our hero and his bumbling sidekick take on an intergalactic threat, while newcomers will find plenty to love in the show's irreverent, tongue-in-cheek approach to storytelling.
