John Drake is tasked with investigating the possibility of sabotage occurring at an important uranium mining facility. Signs of radioactive contamination have been appearing in the pool of water that's used to cool the uranium rods, but none of the workers can explain what's causing it. Drake poses as a computer specialist and begins working at the facility, hoping to learn more about what's happening.
Drake splits his time between his work at the facility and his personal investigation, which takes him out into the surrounding countryside. He's particularly interested in an old barn that appears to be abandoned, which he discovers is owned by a wealthy landowner named Richard Mendleson. Drake begins to suspect that Mendleson is the one who's behind the sabotage, possibly in an attempt to manipulate the uranium market.
During his investigation, Drake forms a relationship with one of the female workers at the facility, a woman named Masha. Masha is initially skeptical of Drake, but they bond over their mutual concern for the safety of the uranium rods. While they spend time together, Drake begins to notice that Masha has a strange pattern of behavior. He eventually realizes that she's the one responsible for the sabotage, having been bribed by Mendleson to contaminate the uranium water with radioactive material.
Drake confronts Masha, and she confesses to her involvement in the plot. With her help, Drake is able to prove Mendleson's guilt and bring him to justice. The episode ends with Drake heading back to London, having thwarted yet another nefarious plot.
