John Drake is an agent with the British government, but his job isn't quite clear to outsiders. It isn't until his car breaks down that we see a glimpse of his true profession. A woman in a sports car pulls up and offers him assistance. He refuses, attempting to fix the car himself, but she insists. Shortly after he gets in her car though, she realizes who he really is. She identifies him as the agent sent to keep an eye on Charles Gregory, a visiting diplomat staying in a nearby villa.
Drake expresses frustration at his job, telling the woman he would rather be out on his own again. However, he knows he has a job to do, so heads to the villa to begin his surveillance. As he's surveying the property, he notices a man painting the scenery. The man is working far from the villa, so Drake at first doesn't pay much attention to him. However, after seeing the man put a bug into the flowers beneath him, Drake decides to investigate.
Drake realizes the man is an enemy agent and follows him back to his headquarters. He listens in as the enemy agent speaks with his superiors, learning that they plan to send in another agent to replace the one Drake just followed. Drake comes up with a plan: he will pose as the enemy agent. He takes some of their equipment and sneaks into their compound.
Once inside, Drake realizes that he is totally out of place. Even though he has the equipment, he doesn't know how to use it. He tries to contact his allies, but they are jamming all frequencies, meaning he is completely on his own.
Drake spends a few hours in the compound, successfully evading detection, but does not find any information that could help him in his mission. Eventually, Charles Gregory and his wife arrive for dinner that evening, so Drake sneaks out and heads back to the villa to keep tabs on them.
The next day, Drake spots the enemy agent who was supposed to replace the one he followed earlier. He notices the agent has a hidden camera in his sunglasses and decides to follow him to gather more information.
Drake confronts the man, and a fist fight ensues. Despite getting a few good hits in, Drake eventually loses and is taken prisoner by the enemy. They torture him in an attempt to get information from him, but he remains stoic.
Meanwhile, the agents Drake was meant to be contacting finally get in touch with him and come to his aid. They fight their way into the enemy compound where Drake is being held and secure his release.
Drake returns to the villa to finish the job he started. He follows Charles Gregory to the airport, where Gregory suddenly disappears. Drake frantically searches for him, and when he finally finds him, Gregory is shot. The episode ends with Drake contemplating the job he's asked to do, reminding us that this line of work isn't always glamorous and that danger is always lurking around the corner.
