The show Dancing with the Stars is back with season 22, and the first episode of the season is all about the new crop of contestants showing off their dance moves for the very first time. The show, which is now in its eleventh year, features 12 celebrity contestants who are paired up with professional dancers as they take on various dance styles and compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy.
In the premiere episode titled “Week 1 Spring 2016,” the 12 couples will perform either the cha cha, fox trot, jive, or quickstep, depending on their assigned dance style. The episode kicks off with host Tom Bergeron and contestant Erin Andrews giving a recap of the previous season and introducing the new judges for this year, who have a combined dance experience of over 30 years.
The first couple to take the stage is football star Doug Flutie and his partner, who will perform the fox trot. Next, actress Mischa Barton and her partner will perform the tango, followed by actress Jodie Sweetin and her partner, who will strut their stuff in the cha cha. Boyz II Men singer Wanya Morris and his partner will perform the cha cha, while The O.C. star Marissa Jaret Winokur and her partner will attempt the quickstep.
The following couples will also take to the dance floor during the premiere episode, each performing one of the designated styles: UFC fighter Paige VanZant and her partner (fox trot), football player Antonio Brown and his partner (quickstep), actress Kim Fields and her partner (cha cha), Good Morning America meteorologist Ginger Zee and her partner (jive), Facts of Life star Kim Fields and her partner (cha cha), and finally, model Nyle DiMarco and his partner will close out the night with a cha cha of their own.
As always, the judges will be critiquing the performances and giving scores out of 10 for each couple, which will count towards their final score. At the end of the episode, the scores will be tallied and the couple with the lowest score will be eliminated from the competition, but not before they get one last chance to plead their case to the judges and the audience.
In addition to the dancing, the premiere episode will also include interviews with the new contestants, giving viewers a chance to get to know the stars a little better before the competition heats up. There will also be plenty of behind-the-scenes footage, showing the couples rehearsing their routines and the judges giving them tips on how to improve.
Overall, the premiere episode of Dancing with the Stars season 22 promises to be an exciting night of dancing, drama, and celebrity antics. With a new crop of stars taking to the dance floor and a panel of experienced judges ready to offer their critiques, it should be a night to remember. So get ready to break out your dancing shoes and join the party, because Dancing with the Stars is back in town.
