In Dad's Army season 2 episode 5, titled "A Stripe for Frazer," the platoon faces a new challenge when Lance Corporal Jones accidentally destroys Captain Mainwaring's platoon flag. The platoon is left without their symbolic representation and in order to rectify this, Mainwaring decides to give Frazer a stripe. Though unexpected, this promotion excites Frazer as he begins to revel in his newfound authority and takes his new responsibilities very seriously.
Meanwhile, the rest of the platoon struggles to accept this sudden change in dynamic. Corporal Jones especially feels left out and begins to fear that he is losing his place in the platoon. In an effort to prove his worth to Mainwaring and the rest of the platoon, Jones sets out to find a replacement flag, but the search proves to be more difficult than expected.
As tensions rise, Mainwaring begins to realize that he may have made a mistake in promoting Frazer so quickly. His power has gone to his head, and he begins to boss the other members of the platoon around, causing conflicts and dissent among the group. Finally, when the search for a new flag proves to be fruitless, Mainwaring is forced to confront Frazer and demand that he relinquish his newfound power and stand down as a Lance Corporal.
The episode ends with the platoon finally obtaining a new flag and regaining their sense of unity and camaraderie. Though initially upset at being stripped of his promotion, Frazer eventually comes to realize that he was not meant to be a leader and settles back into his role as a member of the platoon. The episode serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and teamwork, and the dangers of letting power go to one's head.
