Cybill season 2 episode 3, titled "Since I Lost My Baby," follows the titular character, played by Cybill Shepherd, as she copes with the death of her ex-husband's wife, Maryann. Cybill's ex-husband, Dr. Dick (guest star Peter Graves), visits her at her home to tell her the news, and although she puts on a brave face, Cybill is clearly shaken by the news. Meanwhile, Maryann's funeral brings out the worst in Cybill's friend, Maryann (Christine Baranski), who becomes increasingly jealous of the attention paid to the deceased.
As the episode progresses, Cybill is forced to confront her feelings of grief and sadness, as well as her complicated relationship with her ex-husband. She also struggles to support her friend Maryann, who becomes increasingly infuriating as she obsesses over the funeral and her own insecurities. Cybill enlists the help of her therapist, Dr. Steinberg (guest star Fisher Stevens), to talk through her emotions and figure out how to move forward.
Despite the heavy subject matter, "Since I Lost My Baby" features plenty of humor and light moments, thanks in part to the strong comedic performances of the show's ensemble cast. Cybill's daughters, Rachel (Dedee Pfeiffer) and Zoey (Alicia Witt), provide some levity with their own antics, while Maryann's over-the-top behavior is played for laughs. There are also some poignant moments between Cybill and Dr. Dick as they reminisce about their past together and navigate their complicated relationship.
Overall, "Since I Lost My Baby" is a powerful and emotional episode that showcases the talents of the show's cast. It explores themes of grief, loss, and complicated relationships, while also providing plenty of laughs along the way. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by this must-watch episode.
