Cybersix is an animated television show produced by TMS Entertainment that originally aired in 1999. The show is based on the comic series of the same name created by Carlos Meglia and Carlos Trillo. The show is set in the city of Meridiana, which is ruled by a mad scientist named Doctor Von Reichter. Doctor Von Reichter creates and experiments on genetically engineered beings called "constructs" to do his bidding, but one of his creations, the titular character Cybersix, turns on him and escapes.
Cybersix is a powerful and mysterious woman who possesses superhuman abilities that allow her to fight and defeat the constructs. She was created from a combination of human and feline DNA by Doctor Von Reichter's assistant, Doctor Von Richter's assistant, and was designed to be a weapon. However, she has a conscience and despises violence, so she uses her powers to fight for justice and protect the people of Meridiana.
The show also features a cast of recurring characters who aid Cybersix in her battles. Adrian Seidelman is a young boy who discovers Cybersix's secret identity and becomes her ally. Lucas Amato is a police officer who initially mistrusts Cybersix but eventually becomes her friend. Meanwhile, Lori Anderson is a investigative reporter who is constantly trying to uncover the truth about Cybersix.
Throughout the series, Cybersix and her allies must face off against Doctor Von Reichter's other constructs, which include an army of zombie soldiers, carnivorous plant creatures, and a giant spider. Cybersix must also contend with her own complicated past, as she struggles to understand who and what she really is. All the while, Doctor Von Reichter continues to lurk in the shadows, plotting his revenge against Cybersix.
The show features strong themes of good versus evil, science versus ethics, and identity. The character of Cybersix is particularly interesting, as she generally avoids violence, preferring to use her intellect and superhuman abilities to outsmart her enemies. Her relationship with Adrian is also a highlight of the show, as he serves as both her confidante and the person who keeps her grounded.
The voice acting in Cybersix is notably strong, with Andrew Francis bringing a sense of vulnerability to Adrian, and Cathy Weseluck imbuing Lori with a sense of determination. Michael Dobson is suitably menacing as Doctor Von Reichter, and Alex Doduk gives Lucas a sense of nobility that makes him a likable character. Chantal Strand and Janyse Jaud both provide strong performances as various constructs, although they do not get as much screen time as the main cast. Terry Klassen rounds out the cast as the voice of Julian, Doctor Von Reichter's loyal henchman.
The animation in Cybersix is also noteworthy, with beautiful, detailed backgrounds and fluid action sequences. The character designs are striking, particularly Cybersix's sleek black outfit and long white hair. The show also makes great use of shadows and light, emphasizing the darkness and mystery that surrounds Cybersix.
Overall, Cybersix is a compelling animated series that blends action, sci-fi, and drama in an intriguing way. The show is relatively short, with only 13 episodes, but it manages to tell a complete story and introduce viewers to a fascinating world. Whether you're a fan of animated shows or just looking for something a little different, Cybersix is definitely worth checking out.
