George and Marco Sound It Out / A Monkey's Duckling is the first episode of the fifth season of Curious George. In this episode, George's curiosity leads him and his friend Marco on a mission to help a school band find its missing sound.
When George and Marco hear the school band practicing, they notice that a trumpet is missing its sound. The band is unable to figure out what is wrong with the trumpet, so George and Marco decide to become detectives and investigate the problem. They start by examining the trumpet and realize that it has a dent in it. They try to fix it themselves, but their efforts fail.
George and Marco then decide to take the trumpet to a music store for repair. At the store, they meet a repairman who is able to identify the problem and fix the trumpet. He explains to them that musical instruments need to be taken care of and undergo regular maintenance to keep them in good condition.
After the trumpet is repaired, the band is able to practice and play in the school's concert. George and Marco are rewarded for their detective work by receiving honorary band members certificates.
In the second half of the episode, George finds a duck egg and decides to help it hatch. He puts the egg in a warm and cozy nest and waits for it to hatch. However, when the egg hatches, George is surprised to find that the duckling is not very fond of him. The duckling follows a butterfly and completely ignores George.
Determined to win the duckling's affection, George decides to follow it and tries to make friends with it. He tries various methods, such as mimicking the duckling's movements, quacking like a duck, and even donning a duck costume. However, nothing seems to work.
Eventually, George realizes that he needs to let the duckling be itself and find its own way. He lets the duckling follow the butterfly and is surprised when the duckling returns to him later on. The duckling finally accepts George as its friend and they enjoy a game of catch the butterfly together.
Overall, the episode teaches children about problem-solving, perseverance, and friendship. George's curiosity and determination allow him to help the band and learn about musical instruments. His commitment to raising the duckling teaches children about the responsibilities of caring for animals and the importance of accepting others as they are.
