In the season 6 episode 7 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, titled "The TiVo Guy," Larry David (played by himself) finds himself in hot water when he loses his TiVo privileges after making some careless remarks about the TiVo box belonging to his friend Richard Lewis (also played by himself).
As usual, Larry manages to get himself into the middle of a number of cringe-worthy situations throughout the course of the episode. First, he agrees to switch airline seats with a woman who's trying to escape her chatty seatmate - only to find himself seated next to a talkative guy who won't stop pestering him with questions about his TiVo. Later, he gets in a heated argument with a fellow TiVo enthusiast at a coffee shop, after the man loudly proclaims that TiVo is "the greatest invention ever made" and Larry jokingly responds that he thinks it's "okay."
But things really come to a head when Larry invites his friends Jeff (Jeff Garlin) and Susie (Susie Essman) over to watch a movie. When he realizes that he's forgotten to record the movie on his TiVo, he begs Richard to let him come over and watch it at his house instead. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when Larry accidentally erases one of Richard's precious TiVo recordings while trying to fast-forward through a commercial.
From there, it's all downhill as Larry desperately tries to make amends with Richard and regain his TiVo privileges. His attempts to smooth things over only seem to make things worse, as he finds himself making a series of increasingly bizarre and inappropriate gestures - including showing up at Richard's house in the middle of the night to offer his apologies, and sending him a gift basket as a peace offering (complete with a bag of "TiVo-inspired" coffee beans).
Along the way, Larry also finds himself dealing with a number of other minor annoyances. He hires a handyman (played by actor and comedian David Cross) to fix a broken cabinet in his kitchen, but quickly regrets his decision when he realizes that the man is a bit too talkative and keeps leaving his tools laying around. He also receives a visit from his accountant, who informs him that he owes a large sum of money in back taxes - leading to another uncomfortable encounter as Larry tries to figure out how to get out of paying the bill.
All in all, this episode is a classic example of the awkward, cringe-worthy humor that Curb Your Enthusiasm is known for. As always, Larry manages to get himself into all sorts of embarrassing situations, but somehow manages to come out on top - even if it means sacrificing his dignity in the process. Whether you're a fan of the show or a newcomer, "The TiVo Guy" is a must-see episode that's sure to leave you cringing and laughing in equal measures.
