Larry David is back at it again in the fourth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. In this episode, titled "The Car Pool Lane," Larry is scheming to get out of paying a $375 traffic fine when he discovers a clever loophole: the carpool lane.
Larry's idea is simple: he'll convince his friend and co-worker Jeff to drive him to work each day so they can use the carpool lane and shorten their commute time. When Larry presents the idea to Jeff, he's hesitant at first, but quickly agrees when Larry offers to pay him a few bucks every day.
As they begin their carpooling adventure, they pick up some unexpected passengers along the way. One day it's Cheryl, Larry's ex-wife, who needs a ride to the hospital for a minor procedure. Another day it's Marty Funkhouser, who joins the carpool when his usual driver is out sick.
Things start to get complicated when Larry's girlfriend, who drives a hybrid car, finds out about their carpool scheme. She's upset because Larry is essentially using her car to cheat the system, and she doesn't want to be a part of it.
To make matters worse, Larry runs into trouble on the road when he's pulled over by a cop for not having a passenger in his car. He tries to talk his way out of it, but the cop isn't buying his story.
Meanwhile, Jeff is having problems of his own when his wife discovers he's been taking money from Larry to drive him to work. She thinks it's a scam and demands that Jeff stop immediately.
As the carpool continues, tensions rise and Larry's plan starts to unravel. He's forced to come up with a new solution when Jeff backs out of the deal and his girlfriend refuses to drive him anymore.
In typical Curb Your Enthusiasm fashion, this episode is filled with awkward moments and cringe-worthy encounters. It's a hilarious look at one man's attempt to beat the system and get out of paying a traffic fine. Will Larry be successful in his quest, or will his scheme blow up in his face? Tune in to find out!
