The Grand Opening is the tenth episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm's third season. It originally aired on November 24, 2002, on HBO.
As the episode begins, Larry is preparing for the grand opening of his new restaurant, called "Larry's." He is excited about the opening, but things quickly go awry when he discovers that the chef he hired to run the kitchen has passed away. Without a chef, Larry is forced to come up with a new plan.
Meanwhile, Cheryl's sister, Becky, comes to town for the opening and brings along her husband, Ted, who is an annoying know-it-all. Larry is irritated by Ted's behavior, and the two get into a heated argument that threatens to ruin the evening.
To make matters worse, Larry's ex-girlfriend, Liz, shows up unexpectedly with her new boyfriend. Larry is still carrying a torch for Liz and is thrown off balance by her presence.
As guests begin arriving for the opening, Larry is running around trying to solve various problems. He doesn't have enough bread, the kitchen appliances are malfunctioning, and the air conditioning is broken.
Despite these setbacks, the restaurant starts to fill up, and things seem to be going well. Larry is feeling more and more confident until he sees a food critic enter the restaurant. The critic is notorious for being brutal in his reviews, and Larry is beside himself with worry.
As the evening progresses, Larry's anxiety levels continue to rise. He witnesses a fight break out between two customers and has to deal with a pair of over-the-top foodies who are overly critical of the food.
Despite the chaos, the restaurant manages to survive the evening, and Larry is relieved. However, when the food critic leaves without saying anything, Larry fears the worst. He's convinced that his restaurant is doomed and that he'll never be able to make it work.
The Grand Opening is a classic episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, with plenty of moments that will make you cringe and laugh at the same time. Larry's antics are as outrageous as ever, and the supporting cast is great. This episode is a must-watch for fans of the show and anyone who loves a good comedy.
