Larry attends a baptism for the child of his manager Jeff and his wife Susie. While there, he runs into a number of old acquaintances, including an ex-girlfriend, Cheryl's orthodontist and a woman who once had a crush on him. Things get awkward when Larry accidentally knocks over a tray of hors d'oeuvres and then tries to make up for it by giving the baby an expensive silver spoon as a gift.
Meanwhile, Larry's father Nat is staying with him and Cheryl and driving them crazy with his constant talking and complaining. After a night of staying up late with Nat, Larry oversleeps and ends up being late to the baptism. When he finally arrives, Jeff and Susie are upset with him for his tardiness and for the spoon gift, which Susie finds tacky.
As the ceremony begins, Larry realizes that he accidentally got the wrong envelope when he picked up the baptism gift card from the store. He had intended to buy a $50 card, but ended up with a $5000 one intended for a Bar Mitzvah. Now, he has to find a way to fix his mistake without Jeff and Susie finding out.
Throughout the episode, Larry also has to deal with various social faux pas, including accidentally offending his ex-girlfriend by forgetting her name and belittling Cheryl's orthodontist's profession. In typical Curb Your Enthusiasm fashion, these awkward situations escalate and spiral out of control, causing even more stress for Larry.
Overall, The Baptism is a classic episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm that showcases Larry's social awkwardness and tendency to make things worse when trying to make amends. The introduction of Larry's father adds an extra layer of comedy to the episode, and the integration of various old acquaintances from Larry's past is a nice touch. Fans of the show will love this episode's cringe-worthy moments and sharp humor.
