Larry David's life is full of misunderstandings, social missteps, and general misadventures. In Season 2, Episode 6 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, titled "The Acupuncturist," Larry has an interesting encounter with a new acquaintance: an acupuncturist named Kenji.
At the beginning of the episode, Larry is experiencing some back pain and goes to see his regular doctor. However, he's informed that his doctor is booked up and can't see him for three weeks. In his desperation, Larry turns to a friend who recommends Kenji, an acupuncturist he's had good experiences with.
Larry is initially skeptical of the whole acupuncture thing, but decides to give it a shot after being persuaded by his wife, Cheryl. During his first appointment with Kenji, he's already off to a rocky start: when Kenji is putting in the first needle, Larry jumps and flails his arms, causing the needle to snap off and get lost in his back.
Things only get worse from there. During his next appointment, Larry accidentally touches one of the needles and ends up knocking over the entire table Kenji has set up. And in a later appointment, Larry ends up in the bathroom with a sudden bowel movement right as Kenji shows up to begin the session.
On top of all of this, Larry is dealing with some other misadventures. He's trying to avoid having lunch with a woman he doesn't want to see again, but keeps running into her around town. He's also on a desperate hunt for some grapefruit, but can't seem to find any despite going to multiple stores.
In typical Curb fashion, all of these individual plot lines eventually begin to intersect and weave together in a chaotic and hilarious fashion. The episode culminates in a final scene that involves Kenji, the grapefruit, and an unexpected cameo from a famous actor.
Overall, "The Acupuncturist" is a classic episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm that showcases Larry David's trademark humor and wit. Whether you're a longtime fan of the show or just dipping your toes in, it's an episode well worth watching.
