Chile is renowned for producing some of the world's best wine, and in this episode of Culinary Travels, host Dave Eckert explores the heart of the Maipo Valley region to learn more about the winemaking process. He visits Santa Ema, a winery with a long history that has been producing wine for over 100 years. Here, Dave tours the vineyards and cellars, and learns about the blend of traditional and modern techniques used to create their award-winning wines.
Next up is a visit to Undurraga, one of the oldest wineries in Chile, which has been producing wine since 1885. Dave explores the stunning grounds, including the beautiful English-style park and underground cellars, and learns about the winery's commitment to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.
The final stop on Dave's wine tour is Haras de Pirque, a winery that combines winemaking with equestrianism. Here, Dave meets with the winery's sommelier, who takes him through a series of tastings and explains how to best pair wine with food.
Along the way, Dave also samples some of the fantastic cuisine the region has to offer, including tender lamb and hearty soups, and visits local markets to see the fresh ingredients that go into traditional Chilean dishes.
