In CSI: NY season 7 episode 15 titled "Vigilante," the team investigates the murder of a notorious vigilante in New York City. The vigilante, who called himself "The Compass," had been targeting and killing convicted rapists and murderers who were released from prison due to technicalities in the legal system. While some people in the city considered The Compass a hero, others saw him as a dangerous and reckless criminal.
The investigation leads the team to a group of anti-violence activists who had been advocating for harsher punishment for convicted criminals. The activists include a former prosecutor, a victim's rights advocate, and an ex-cop who had been fired for excessive force. The team also discovers that The Compass had been working with a hacker to access the criminal records of convicted rapists and murderers.
To further complicate the case, the team also has to contend with the arrival of Deputy Chief Hyde, a no-nonsense law enforcement official who takes a hardline approach to policing. Hyde clashes with Mac and his team, especially when it comes to their handling of The Compass's case.
As the investigation progresses, the team uncovers a complex web of secrets and lies, and eventually discovers the true identity of The Compass and his accomplice. Along the way, they also have to deal with personal and professional challenges, as the investigation takes a toll on their relationships and their sense of justice.
Filled with suspense, action, and drama, "Vigilante" is a thrilling episode of CSI: NY that explores the gray area between justice and vigilantism, and raises thought-provoking questions about the role of law enforcement and the limits of free speech and activism in modern society.
