Detective Mac Taylor and his team at the New York Crime Lab investigate a bloody shooting and attempted robbery at a Chinese store that resulted in the death of the store owner. The victim's son is the prime suspect, but he denies any involvement and insists that he was playing chess with his mentor at the time of the crime. Mac and his team dig deeper into the world of underground chess clubs and discover a rivalry between the victim's son and another promising player known as "The Grand Master."
The investigation leads the team to a chess club where they interview players and analyze evidence, including a bullet that was lodged in a chess set. They also question the victim's daughter, who reveals that she was dating "The Grand Master" but had broken up with him over his obsession with chess.
Mac and his team soon realize that the shooting and robbery were orchestrated as a cover-up for a more sinister plot. They unravel a web of lies, jealousies, and secrets in the competitive world of underground chess. Mac's obsession with solving the case puts his relationship with his girlfriend and a prominent chess player in jeopardy.
As the investigation heats up, the team races against the clock to uncover the truth and bring the perpetrator to justice. Will they be able to solve the case before someone else gets hurt? The pressure is on in this gripping episode of CSI: NY.
