As If by Fate is the fifth episode of the second season of Crossing Jordan. The episode revolves around the death of a young woman, who was presumed to have committed suicide by jumping off an apartment building. However, Jordan suspects foul play and decides to investigate the case further.
The episode begins with Jordan and Woody examining the body of the young woman, named Nina. Jordan notices that there are marks on Nina's neck that indicate that she might have been strangled before falling off the building. However, the detectives assigned to the case are not convinced and believe that Nina's death was a suicide.
As Jordan continues to investigate the case, she discovers that Nina was a professional psychic who had made some enemies in the past. One of her clients, a wealthy businessman named Harry, had accused Nina of swindling him out of his money. Jordan decides to question Harry and discovers that he had visited Nina on the day of her death. Harry denies any involvement in Nina's death but as Jordan looks into his business dealings, she discovers evidence that links him to a string of other psychic scams.
Meanwhile, Macy is dealing with his own personal issues as he struggles to come to terms with the guilt he feels over his father's death. He meets with his therapist and discusses his feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness. Macy is also helping Lily deal with her own personal problems as she struggles to balance work and parenting. Her son is acting out and causing her a lot of stress.
As the investigation progresses, Jordan and Woody receive a tip that leads them to a man named Teddy, who admits to killing Nina in a fit of rage. Teddy claims that he had gone to see Nina for a psychic reading and when she told him something he did not want to hear, he lost control and strangled her. Jordan and Woody are able to apprehend Teddy and he is taken into custody.
As the episode comes to a close, Macy and Lily both find resolution to their personal struggles. Macy decides to release his guilt over his father's death and focus on the good memories they shared. Lily sets aside her work and spends quality time with her son, helping him through his issues.
Overall, As If by Fate is a well-written and engaging episode of Crossing Jordan. The main mystery is intriguing and keeps the viewer guessing until the end. The personal struggles of the characters add depth and realism to the story, making it a well-rounded and enjoyable viewing experience.
