In the sixteenth episode of season eight of Criminal Minds, titled "Carbon Copy," the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is sent to investigate a series of murders in Philadelphia. The team discovers that the victims have all been strangled with a wire, and their hands have been removed post-mortem.
As the team delves deeper into the case, they realize that the murderer is copying the modus operandi of another serial killer who was active in the 1980s. The original killer, who was never caught, was known as the "Handyman," and he also strangled his victims and removed their hands.
The BAU sets out to find connections between the present copycat and the Handyman, and they interview survivors and witnesses from the original investigation. They also discover that the original investigation was mishandled, and key pieces of evidence were lost or mishandled.
Meanwhile, the team learns that the copycat is targeting women who are either pregnant or have young children. They realize that the copycat is likely someone who was affected by the Handyman's original crimes, and is now seeking revenge.
As tensions rise and the body count continues to climb, the BAU must race against time to catch the copycat before they can strike again. With each new development, the team grows closer to apprehending the killer, but they are also faced with the harsh reality that they may not be able to prevent another tragedy from occurring.
In the end, the team is able to track down the copycat and bring them to justice. However, the case leaves a lasting impact on the BAU, and they are left to wonder if there are other "carbon copies" of notorious serial killers out there, waiting to strike again.
