In Criminal Minds season 5 episode 10, titled "The Slave of Duty," the BAU team is tasked with investigating a string of murders in a small town in Virginia. The victims are all young women who have been strangled, and the killer seems to be escalating in his level of violence.
As the team delves deeper into the case, they discover that the killer is a former marine who suffers from PTSD. He believes that he is on a mission from God to rid the world of "impure" women, and he sees himself as a slave to this duty.
The team races against the clock to catch the killer, who has taken his latest victim hostage. Hotch and Morgan work together to try to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the situation, but the killer's delusions and unstable state make for a tense and unpredictable standoff.
Meanwhile, Reid is struggling with his own demons. He is haunted by the memory of the death of his girlfriend, Maeve, and he begins to question his own mental stability. As he works through his grief and trauma, he continues to use his skills as a profiler to help the team solve the case.
In the end, the BAU is able to apprehend the killer and rescue his hostage, but not before several members of the team are put in danger. The episode ends on a bittersweet note, with the team taking a moment to acknowledge the toll that their line of work takes on their mental health and relationships outside of work.
