Crime and Punishment was a crime drama television series that aired on NBC from 2002 to 2004. The show was based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's classic novel of the same name, and followed the story of a young law student, Raskolnikov, who commits a heinous crime and subsequently suffers the consequences of his actions.

The show was set in present-day New York City and followed Raskolnikov (played by Patrick Dempsey) as he struggled to cope with the guilt and shame of his crime. Detective Sonia Petrova (played by Melissa George) is assigned to investigate the case, and gradually begins to piece together the evidence against Raskolnikov.

As the investigation progresses, Raskolnikov's friends and family become involved, drawing them into a dangerous web of deception and violence. Meanwhile, Petrova must navigate the complex relationships and politics of the police department in order to bring Raskolnikov to justice.

Throughout the series, the themes of crime and punishment are explored in depth, with Raskolnikov's inner turmoil and moral struggle providing a compelling backdrop to the crime drama. The show also dealt with issues of social class, poverty, and corruption, highlighting the pervasive influence of these factors on the criminal justice system and society at large.

The cast of Crime and Punishment included a number of notable actors, including Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy), Melissa George (Alias), and Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born). The series was created by executive producer Preston Fischer, and was produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Despite its heavy subject matter and somber tone, Crime and Punishment was well received by critics and viewers alike. Its nuanced portrayal of complex characters and its exploration of timely social issues helped to elevate it above other crime dramas of the time.

However, despite its initial success, the show suffered from declining ratings in its second season and was ultimately cancelled after just two seasons. Nevertheless, its impact on the crime drama genre and its legacy as a sophisticated and thought-provoking series remain enduring.

Crime and Punishment is a series that ran for 3 seasons (27 episodes) between June 16, 2002 and on NBC
