In Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 2 episode 5 titled "Why Is Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Eating Carbs?", Rebecca is having trouble keeping up with her eating habits after her break up with Josh. As usual, she is obsessing over everything and constantly weighing herself, but finds comfort in the fact that Josh's ex-girlfriend Valencia is also going through a difficult time.
Valencia has had a complete turnaround in her life and is now eating everything she never allowed herself to indulge in when she was with Josh. While Rebecca is trying to get healthy, Valencia is indulging in carbs and sugars, and it's seriously starting to affect her life. In order to make herself feel better, she even starts going to Rebecca's yoga classes – and she's not exactly the most considerate person in class.
Meanwhile, Paula is trying to get Rebecca the partnership she needs at work, and recruits Darryl for help. Together, they find a way to get the elusive Mrs. Hernandez on board, and things start to look up for Rebecca. She even tries to persuade Valencia to come along to a work dinner as her plus one, but things go awry when she discovers the reason behind Valencia's recent eating habits.
In "Why Is Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Eating Carbs?", we see the usual hijinks of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, but the episode also takes a more serious tone as Valencia struggles with her own insecurities and feelings of self-worth. Even Rebecca realizes that she can't control everything, and that sometimes you just have to let go and accept what you can't change.
As usual, the music in this episode is catchy and hilarious, with Rebecca and her yoga class singing the workout anthem "Fit Hot Guys Have Problems Too". Valencia's solo number "Period Sex" is a standout, as she embraces her newfound independence and freedom.
Overall, "Why Is Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Eating Carbs?" is a solid episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, exploring themes of self-acceptance and personal growth. It's a mix of laughs and heartwarming moments, and a great showcase for Rachel Bloom's talent as a writer and performer.
