Rebecca Bunch is back in the second season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with the premiere episode, "Where Is Josh's Friend?". After finally winning back her ex-boyfriend Josh in the first season finale, Rebecca is now in a happy place and ready to start a new chapter in her life. But as always, things aren't as straightforward as they seem for the perpetually-dramatic Rebecca.
The episode kicks off with Rebecca and Josh enjoying a cute date at a donut shop, where they run into Josh's friend Greg. Greg, who has been portrayed as a cynical bartender who has the hots for Rebecca in the first season, is noticeably absent from the donut shop since he's been MIA for weeks. Despite Josh's efforts to keep Rebecca's attention on him, she can't help but be concerned for Greg's well-being.
Unable to shake the thought of Greg, Rebecca spends the rest of the episode trying to track him down, even enlisting Josh's help. Meanwhile, her BFF Paula is still in the midst of her own midlife crisis, which in this episode involves trying to balance her job as a legal secretary and studying for her own law degree. We also catch up with other recurring characters like Valencia, Josh's ex-girlfriend who is still bitter about their breakup, and Darryl, Rebecca's boss who has his own set of personal issues to deal with.
Like the rest of the series, "Where Is Josh's Friend?" is packed with musical numbers that range from hilarious to heartwarming. The standout song of the episode is "Love Kernels", which has Rebecca singing about the mixed signals she's receiving from Josh. The song is a fun, catchy tune that perfectly captures Rebecca's neurotic personality and her tendency to overanalyze everything.
Overall, the premiere episode of the second season is a solid start to the continued drama and hilarity that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is known for. The mystery surrounding Greg's whereabouts keeps the episode interesting, and there are plenty of laughs to be had from the various subplots and musical numbers. Fans of the show will definitely enjoy the return of their favorite characters and the introduction of some new plotlines that promise to shake things up even more.
