Ep 1. Episode 1
- December 14, 2019
A wealthy South Korean woman named Yoon Se-ri, the CEO of her own cosmetics company, goes out paragliding and gets swept up in a storm that carries her over the border of North Korea. She crash-lands in a tree just inside North Korean territory, where she is discovered by a high-ranking North Korean officer named Ri Jeong-hyeok. Despite his initial annoyance at having to take care of her, Ri Jeong-hyeok is unable to leave her alone in the forest and takes her to a safe house where he and his comrades try to figure out how to send her back to South Korea without getting caught by North Korean authorities.
Meanwhile, back in South Korea, Yoon Se-ri's family and colleagues are frantically searching for her as news spreads of her disappearance. Her younger brother uses his connections in the military to try to find any information on her whereabouts, while her estranged ex-boyfriend worries about her safety and tries to reconnect with her family. As time passes, it becomes clear that Yoon Se-ri is not simply lost or trapped somewhere in South Korea, but has somehow ended up in North Korea - an unthinkable scenario given the political tensions between the two countries.
In North Korea, Yoon Se-ri struggles to adapt to her new surroundings and the strict rules that she must follow in order to avoid suspicion from the North Korean soldiers who patrol the area around the safe house. She also begins to see the human side of Ri Jeong-hyeok and his fellow officers, who are often viewed as cold and heartless by outsiders. As she spends more time in their company, Yoon Se-ri realizes that they are not the brainwashed robots that she had been taught to fear, but are just like her - human beings who have hopes, dreams, and a desire for a better life.
As the episode ends, Yoon Se-ri makes a bold decision to try to escape from North Korea, much to the distress of Ri Jeong-hyeok and his comrades. She realizes that she cannot simply wait for someone to come rescue her, and that she must take matters into her own hands if she wants to have any chance at returning home. However, her attempt at a daring escape is thwarted by the arrival of North Korean soldiers, leaving her fate in jeopardy.
