Annie Walker, a CIA trainee, is sent to Paris for her first field mission. She is tasked with retrieving a package from a café, which she successfully does with the help of her contact and fellow CIA agent, Auggie Anderson. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse when the café is attacked and Annie is forced to flee, barely escaping with the package.
Back at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, Annie is debriefed by her boss, Joan Campbell, and her mentor, Arthur Campbell. The package she retrieved contains a flash drive with information about a Iranian nuclear scientist who is planning to defect to the United States. Annie is assigned to protect him during his trip to New York City for a UN conference.
Annie arrives in New York City and meets with the defector, who is accompanied by his daughter, but things quickly get complicated when a Russian agent attempts to assassinate him. Annie manages to save his life and takes him and his daughter to a safe house, but they are soon discovered by the Russians. A shootout ensues, and Annie is forced to make a split-second decision that could have serious consequences.
Meanwhile, Auggie is dealing with his own problems back in Langley. An old friend and fellow CIA agent has been arrested for selling secrets to the Russians, and Auggie is determined to prove his innocence. With the help of Annie, he uncovers evidence that not only clears his friend's name but also exposes a larger conspiracy within the agency.
As the episode comes to a close, Annie successfully escorts the defector and his daughter to their final destination, but not without facing some difficult choices along the way. She returns to Langley a changed agent, more confident in her abilities and her place within the CIA.
