Covert Affairs is an action-packed spy drama series that follows the story of a young CIA agent, Annie Walker, as she navigates through the dangerous world of espionage. In season 1 episode 2, titled "Walter's Walk," Annie finds herself on a mission to retrieve a stolen laptop that contains valuable intel about a terrorist organization.
The episode starts with Annie preparing to go on a trip to Sri Lanka to meet with Walter, a retired CIA agent who has important information about the terrorist group. However, before she can leave, she is summoned to a meeting with her boss, Joan, and the head of the CIA's Counterintelligence Division, Arthur.
Annie is surprised to find out that Arthur doesn't think she's ready for the mission and wants to assign it to someone more experienced. However, Joan convinces him to give Annie a chance and she is allowed to proceed with the mission.
Annie arrives in Sri Lanka and meets up with Walter, who hands her a laptop containing the intel she needs. However, things take a turn for the worse when they are ambushed by members of the terrorist group. Walter is killed in the attack, and Annie is forced to flee with the laptop.
Back at the CIA headquarters, Annie is debriefed by Auggie, a blind tech operative who assists her on her missions. Auggie is able to extract the information from the laptop, which reveals that the terrorist group is planning an attack on a U.S. embassy.
With this new intel, Annie and her team are able to track down one of the terrorists responsible for the attack in Sri Lanka. They intercept him before he can carry out the embassy attack, but not before a tense standoff in which Annie must negotiate with the terrorist to prevent him from detonating a bomb.
In the end, Annie is able to apprehend the terrorist and prevent the attack on the embassy. However, the mission comes with a heavy cost, as Annie must deal with the loss of Walter and the toll that the dangerous and unpredictable world of espionage is taking on her personal life.
Overall, "Walter's Walk" is an intense and thrilling episode that showcases the high stakes and dangers of the spy game. It also delves deeper into Annie's character, revealing the conflicts and struggles that come with trying to balance a secret life of danger and espionage with a personal life that is increasingly difficult to maintain.
