Cory In The House season 1 episode 5, "Rock the Vote," follows the antics of Cory Baxter and his friend Newt Livingston as they enter a school election with the hopes of winning the position of class president. The episode starts with Cory’s intense campaign spree, where he uses comedy to create catchy slogans to lure voters. Meanwhile, his rival candidate, Stanford, emphasizes his experience and seriousness in his campaign, which focuses on school rules and regulations.
While the candidates talk about how they would change school policies and services, they both realize that they need to build a good reputation to get more votes. To boost their popularity, Cory and Stanford both decide to invite famous musicians to perform during their campaigns. Cory and Newt settle for a local band named The Jonas Brothers while Stanford invites the successful group DaSlam.
Things start to get messy when the election committee tells the candidates that they cannot use music during campaigning unless they get both bands to perform for both candidates. After talking with DaSlam, Stanford agrees and is surprised when Cory says that he cannot get permission from The Jonas Brothers. Cory remains adamant that they already made an agreement with The Jonas Brothers, and they cannot go back on their word.
During the election, Stanford’s well-planned speeches and The Jonas Brothers' endorsement help him secure more votes than Cory, who ends up with only one vote–from Newt himself. Cory is devastated after losing the election and lashes out at Newt and The Jonas Brothers for not supporting him enough.
Realizing that he has hurt his friend, Cory has a change of heart and decides to accept Stanford's offer to work together as class president and vice president. They soon become an unbeatable team and, with The Jonas Brothers' help, start to make positive changes to the school that are beneficial to both the students and the teachers.
