Ep 5. The Littlest Yarbo

In the third season of Corner Gas, we find ourselves in the small town of Dog River, Saskatchewan with our favorite cast of characters. In the fifth episode, titled "The Littlest Yarbo," we dive deeper into the lives of Hank and his family.

The episode begins with Wanda and Brent discovering a new resident in town, a dwarf named Eddie Yarbo. Hank is beyond excited about the prospect of meeting another short person. When he does finally meet Eddie, he's disappointed to discover that Eddie doesn't share his enthusiasm for their shared trait. Hank attempts to show Eddie how proud he is of being a dwarf, but Eddie is uninterested. This leads Hank to feel like he has to prove himself to Eddie by standing up to a group of guys that were teasing Eddie. Hank's attempt at defending Eddie ends up putting the two of them in danger.

Meanwhile, Oscar is convinced he's found a hidden treasure. He's got all of the necessary equipment and has dragged Davis along to help him search. As they dig around in the field, Oscar shares his old war stories with Davis, much to his dismay. When they return to the Ruby Cafe, Oscar discovers that what he thought was a treasure was simply a rusty old car part.

Back in the town, Lacey and Emma are having a heated debate over the best local honey. Emma has a secret weapon up her sleeve - her own homemade honey. The two test out their honeys on various members of the community, and surprisingly, Emma's honey is consistently preferred. However, Lacey is reluctant to admit defeat and devises a plan to steal Emma's recipe.

"The Littlest Yarbo" features a lot of great comedic moments, particularly surrounding Oscar's treasure hunt and Lacey's rivalry with Emma over the honey. However, it's the story of Hank and Eddie that really hits home. The episode provides an opportunity to examine how individuals with physical differences can feel about the way they are perceived by their peers. Hank's determination to convince Eddie that being a dwarf can be something to be proud of shows the depth of his loyalty and admiration for Eddie. Hank learns that not everyone is going to feel the same way he does about being a dwarf, but that shouldn't stop him from appreciating everything that makes him unique.

Overall, "The Littlest Yarbo" is another great episode of Corner Gas, full of heart and humor. The show continues to offer a charming and humorous portrayal of small-town life in Canada and the quirky people that inhabit it.
