In Corner Gas Animated season 1 episode 12, titled "Sunny and Share," the residents of Dog River are dealing with an unexpected heatwave. As the temperatures rise, the town's quirky cast of characters are struggling to stay cool and find ways to beat the heat.
At the local restaurant and bar, The Ruby, owner Brent Leroy (voiced by series creator Brent Butt) and his best friend Hank Yarbo (Fred Ewanuick) are brainstorming ways to keep cool. When Wanda Dollard (Nancy Robertson) suggest they install an air conditioning unit, Brent scoffs at the idea, citing the cost and his commitment to the environment.
Meanwhile, Davis Quinton (Lorne Cardinal) and Karen Pelly (Tara Spencer-Nairn) are patrolling the town in their police cruiser, trying to keep order as residents become more irritable and prone to argument as the mercury rises. Davis, in particular, is struggling with the heat and beginning to lose his cool.
Elsewhere in town, Emma Leroy (Corinne Koslo) is struggling with her garden during the heatwave, while her husband Oscar (Eric Peterson) is trying to find a way to make some easy money by selling popsicles from his truck. The two are bickering as usual, but find solace in the shade of their truck and the cool treat.
As the day wears on and the heat becomes unbearable, the residents of Dog River begin to hallucinate and act a bit crazy. Brent and Hank decide to break down and purchase an air conditioner, but find they can't get it installed until the next day.
With no relief in sight, the town decides to come together and find ways to stay cool. Emma invites everyone to her house for a pool party, which quickly becomes a mob scene as everyone tries to jump in at once. Brent and Hank turn The Ruby into a makeshift movie theater, but find it too hot to even watch the film they rented.
The episode culminates in a hilarious scene in which Davis and Karen attempt to take down a suspect while slathered in sunscreen and wearing makeshift hats and umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. The suspect proves to be too agile for the overheated officers, and they eventually give up and retreat to their cruiser for a nap.
Overall, "Sunny and Share" is a fun and lighthearted episode that showcases the charm and humor of Corner Gas Animated. As always, the show's colorful characters and quirky small-town setting make it a must-watch for fans of Canadian comedy.
