Cops and Monsters is a supernatural police procedural web series that follows the Paranormal Investigations Team Scotland (PITS) as they uncover and solve supernatural crimes that plague their city. Created by Fraser Coull and produced by his company My Spotlight Independent, the show premiered on Halloween of 2014 and ran for three seasons before going on hiatus in 2018.

The series is set in a world where supernatural beings, such as vampires, werewolves, and witches, exist and coexist with humans. PITS, led by Chief Inspector Vera Saffron (played by Ellen Patterson), is a team of highly trained officers who specialize in handling supernatural cases. Vera is a no-nonsense woman who takes her job seriously and pushes her team to be the best they can be.

Simon Weir plays Detective Inspector Alex Harvey, Vera's second in command, and a straight-laced, by-the-book officer who believes in following protocol. His partner, Detective Sergeant May "Maya" Cooper (Kenny Boyle), is the complete opposite. She's brash, doesn't take orders well, and has a bit of a wild streak.

The show boasts a talented cast of actors, many of whom have appeared in other popular Scottish TV shows and movies. Billy Kirkwood plays the head of a vampire clan named 'Lazarus' who is often at odds with PITS, while Chris Bain plays a werewolf who occasionally helps the team. Innes Anderson plays a researcher who provides valuable information to PITS, and Leona Kate Vaughan and Rachel Teate play witches who assist the team when needed.

One of the standout performances in the series is Caitlin Blackwood's portrayal of Eve, a young girl with mysterious powers that PITS has to protect from those who wish to harm her. Blackwood, who is perhaps best known for playing a young Amelia Pond on Doctor Who, brings a sense of vulnerability and innocence to the character.

The show is shot on location in Scotland, giving it a distinctly gritty and realistic feel. The special effects, while not always perfect, are impressive for an independent series, and the makeup and costumes for the various supernatural creatures are well done.
