- May 11, 1997
In Cooking Master Boy season 1 episode 3, entitled "Go For It! Super Chef," we follow protagonist Liu Mao Xing as he joins a cooking competition hosted by a wealthy businessman named Master Huang. The competition is fierce, with several young chefs from around Beijing vying for the top prize of 10,000 taels of silver.
Mao is initially hesitant to enter the competition, as he is still recovering from his defeat in the previous episode. However, his friends and fellow chefs, Mei Li and Shirou, encourage him to participate and show off his skills.
The competition consists of three rounds, with the contestants being judged on their appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Mao impresses the judges with his appetizer of Egg and Spring Onion Rolls, which feature a crispy layer of egg with a savory filling. He also wows the judges with his main course of Spicy Braised Wild Boar, which is cooked to perfection with just the right amount of heat.
However, Mao struggles with the dessert round, as he is unfamiliar with the ingredient he is given: taro. He decides to use it to make a traditional Chinese dessert called Taro Paste, but his first attempt turns out to be a disaster. Undeterred, Mao tries again, this time incorporating some of the techniques he learned from Shirou about working with sugar. His second attempt is a success, and the judges are impressed with his ingenuity and determination.
As the competition draws to a close, Mao finds himself tied with another young chef named Yang Ming. In order to break the tie, Master Huang announces a sudden death round, where the two competitors must each create a dish using a secret ingredient revealed only to them. Mao is given sea cucumber, which he has never even tasted before.
Despite his lack of familiarity with the ingredient, Mao decides to make a dish that combines the sea cucumber with ginger, garlic, and soy sauce. The judges are blown away by the flavors and textures in his dish, and declare him the winner of the competition.
With his confidence restored, Mao sets his sights on his next challenge: winning the title of "Super Chef" in the national cooking competition. But for now, he's content to bask in the afterglow of his victory, surrounded by his friends and fellow chefs.
Overall, "Go For It! Super Chef" is an exciting and fast-paced episode that showcases the creativity and skill of the show's young chefs. It's a great introduction to the world of competitive cooking, and a testament to the power of passion and perseverance.
