Ep 40. Honey, I Shrunk the Show

  • March 20, 2012

In this episode of Conan, the late-night talk show host Conan O'Brien takes on the classic sci-fi trope of shrinking in size. Opening with a tongue-in-cheek monologue about the possibility of downsizing himself to save on costs, Conan is soon interrupted by a strange occurrence in his studio.

As it turns out, a young girl named Lily has somehow shrunk Conan's desk and everything on it down to miniature size using a mysterious ray gun. Conan and his trusty sidekick Andy Richter soon find themselves shrunken down to nearly the size of ants, and must navigate their now-oversized set in order to undo the damage.

What follows is a madcap adventure through tiny tunnels, over towering computer keyboards, and under perilous paperclips as Conan and Andy try to locate Lily and reverse the effects of the ray gun. Along the way, they encounter a host of hilarious obstacles, including an aggressive stapler, a group of menacing rubber bands, and a sinister colony of dust bunnies.

Despite the absurdity of the premise, the episode manages to maintain a sense of witty humor and fast-paced action throughout. Conan's trademark wit and irreverent humor are on full display, as he and Andy navigate their miniature world with all the panache and humor of a classic action hero.

Even as they face one challenge after another, Conan and Andy never lose their sense of humor or their ability to improvise on the fly. The episode is a testament to the duo's comedic chemistry and ability to roll with the punches, even (or perhaps especially) when those punches come in the form of a giant paperclip or a particularly aggressive tape dispenser.

All in all, Honey, I Shrunk the Show is a hilarious and entertaining episode that manages to make the most of its absurdist premise. Fans of Conan and late-night comedy in general will find plenty to love in this zany and inventive installment of the show.
