Ep 3. Manuary 5th - The Day of the Dude

  • January 5, 2012

Conan O'Brien returns for the third episode of his 2012 season and he's celebrating the fifth of January in style. Dubbing it "Manuary 5th - The Day of the Dude", Conan pulls out all the stops for an evening of manly entertainment and humor.

The episode begins with a bang as Conan takes the stage in his signature suit and tie, but with an added twist - he's wearing a pair of sunglasses. The audience goes wild as he introduces the theme of the night and launches into a slew of jokes about manliness, from beards to beer to sports.

The first guest of the night is actor and comedian Nick Offerman, best known for his role as Ron Swanson on the hit show Parks and Recreation. Offerman saunters onto the stage with a cigar in hand and immediately launches into his own brand of dry, sarcastic humor. The two exchange banter about manliness and the art of woodworking, which Offerman is a passionate advocate for.

Next up is Mike Wolfe, star of the reality show American Pickers. He and Conan chat about the joys of hunting for vintage treasures, as well as the perils of dealing with less-than-honest sellers. Wolfe regales the audience with stories of some of his best finds, including a rare Harley Davidson motorcycle and a massive collection of oil cans.

The musical guest of the night is alternative rock band Young the Giant, who draw cheers from the crowd as they take the stage. The band plays their hit song "Cough Syrup", showcasing their unique blend of soaring vocals and catchy guitar riffs. Conan later sits down with the band for a chat about their origins, their newest album, and their inspiration.

As the night goes on, the manliness factor only increases. Conan introduces a segment called "What Were They Selling?", in which he and his guests watch vintage commercials and attempt to guess what product they're advertising. The commercials range from bizarre (a young child dramatically announcing that "I am a robot!") to hilarious (a man attempting to sell a turban-wearing monkey as a pet).

The episode ends with a bang as Conan brings out his final guest of the night - none other than the original Dude himself, Jeff Bridges. Bridges saunters onto the stage clad in his iconic sweater and carries a cocktail, embodying the laid-back attitude that made his character in The Big Lebowski such a cult classic. The two share a few laughs as they reminisce about the film, and Bridges talks about his upcoming projects.

Overall, this episode of Conan is a celebration of all things manly, from beards to woodworking to vintage treasures. With an all-star lineup of guests and plenty of laughs to go around, it's a perfect way to kick off the new year. So grab a beer, grow out your beard, and settle in for a night of manliness with Conan.
