In the thirteenth episode of the season, entitled "Basic Sandwich," the group finds themselves in a precarious situation when Subway, the fast-food chain, threatens to take over the Greendale campus.
In an effort to save their beloved school, Jeff (Joel McHale), Annie (Alison Brie), Abed (Danny Pudi), Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown), Britta (Gillian Jacobs), and Chang (Ken Jeong) team up to create the ultimate sandwich that could put Subway out of business. The group's sandwich-making skills are put to the test when they learn that Subway has hired a master sandwich artist, played by Jason Mantzoukas, to create their own masterpiece.
