In Community season 3 episode 12, titled "Contemporary Impressionists", the study group finds themselves in a sticky situation when they discover that their new substitute History professor, Professor Cornwallis (played by Malcolm McDowell), is demanding bribes from students in exchange for good grades. Jeff takes it upon himself to bring down the corrupt professor and devises a plan to expose him by staging an elaborate art exhibition in the Greendale cafeteria.
The theme of the art exhibition is contemporary impressionism, where each member of the study group creates a unique piece of artwork inspired by a personal experience. Jeff's plan is to lure Professor Cornwallis to the exhibition and then use his own greed against him to expose his corrupt behavior in front of the entire school.
As the members of the study group work on their artwork, they quickly learn that they all have very different interpretations of contemporary impressionism. Abed creates a film that depicts his experience of being trapped in his apartment during a gas leak, while Troy creates a painting of a magical, mythical creature that he saw in a dream. Meanwhile, Annie struggles to come up with an idea and tries to copy Britta's artwork, only to be caught by Britta herself.
Things start to go awry as the exhibition approaches. The group discovers that Professor Cornwallis is already aware of their plan and has turned the tables on them, threatening to fail the entire class unless they can prove their case against him. Suddenly, the study group's creativity is put to the test as they scramble to come up with a new plan to take down the corrupt professor.
Throughout the episode, we see the various members of the study group work together to come up with creative solutions to their problems. Jeff's plan may have failed, but that doesn't stop them from finding a new way to outsmart Professor Cornwallis. We also see the characters' personal relationships evolve, as Britta and Annie have a heart-to-heart moment, and Abed and Troy's friendship is tested when Abed ignores Troy's frustration with his artwork.
Overall, "Contemporary Impressionists" is a fun, creative episode that showcases the unique character dynamics of the study group. It's a testament to their resourcefulness and teamwork, as well as their ability to think outside the box in order to overcome obstacles.
