When the dean announces that the culinary program has been cancelled, Shirley, Pierce, Abed, and Jeff opt to enroll in the anthropology class instead. Meanwhile, Troy and Britta discover a hidden talent for dance and begin practicing for the school talent show. As the anthropology class delves into the subject of ritualistic traditions, tensions rise between Shirley and Pierce over their differing interpretations of their African American heritage. Abed also struggles with his own sense of identity and place within American culture. As the students prepare for the talent show, their personal conflicts come to a head, threatening both their relationships and their chance at winning the competition. Through it all, the group learns the importance of respecting one another's cultural beliefs and learning from each other's differences.
