In season 2, episode 4, we meet Paula, a 50-year-old retired nurse from Adelaide who is passionate about home cooking.
Paula is excited to host her dinner party and impress her guests with her cooking skills. She plans to cook a three-course meal that pays homage to her Portuguese heritage. As the guests arrive, they are greeted by Paula who is dressed in a traditional Portuguese outfit. She welcomes them with a glass of port and introduces them to her husband, who is also of Portuguese descent.
The guests are impressed with the decor of the dining room, which has been decorated with Portuguese tiles and traditional artifacts. Paula has also set up a small stage in the corner of the room where a Portuguese guitarist plays traditional music.
As the guests take their seats, Paula brings out the first course which is a seafood dish called Caldeirada de Peixe. The dish is a stew of fish, clams, and shrimp that has been seasoned with garlic and paprika. The guests are blown away by the flavors and textures of the dish and are impressed with the presentation.
For the main course, Paula has prepared Cozido à Portuguesa, which is a meat and vegetable stew that is cooked slowly for several hours. The dish consists of pork, beef, chorizo, cabbage, potatoes, and carrots and is served with rice. The guests are pleasantly surprised by the dish, which is flavorful and hearty. They appreciate the effort that has gone into cooking the dish and commend Paula for the attention to detail.
For dessert, Paula has decided to make a traditional Portuguese dessert called Pastel de Nata. The dish is a small custard tart that is flavored with cinnamon and vanilla and is served with a dollop of whipped cream. The guests are delighted with the dessert, which is light and creamy.
As the night comes to an end, the guests rate Paula's performance and are impressed with her culinary skills. They appreciate the effort that has gone into creating a memorable experience and commend her for staying true to her heritage. Paula is overjoyed with the positive feedback and is happy to have hosted a successful dinner party.
